What classifies as sexy hair? LESS WEIGHT and MORE MOVEMENT! Drop the aerosol, ladies! It’s time love your hair without feeling the need to plaster it like a helmet! There’s nothing more beautiful than movement in the hair. Photographers even devote photo shoots to capturing these amazing moments of movement.

Now, clearly these artistic photos were staged to capture the gorgeous flow of hair. So, how do we implement movement in the hair on a daily basis without whipping our hair back and forth like Willow or carrying huge industrial fans around?? We create movement by removing weight in the hair!

By using a razor in the hair, we have more creative freedom! To some of you, this may sound scary. A lot of people have experienced a BAD razored haircut. Let me assure you, it was not the tool-of-choice that gave the bad cut, it was the technician behind the tool. There is much more to a razored haircut than simply implementing a razor for a disheveled texture. It takes dedication and discipline to cut an entire head of hair with a razor AND have it turn out perfectly! A lot of stylists use a guard on the blade which doesn’t allow for precision.

I have personally been razor cutting for over 2 years. I picked up my razor when I began to indulge in ARROJO education. I wanted to perfect my precision razor cutting skills. So, I tossed the guard! The craft to razor cutting begins with learning the fundamentals, once that is perfected you can begin to implement more advanced technique. Now, I find myself branching off into more creative razor cutting. Rather than following a cutting pattern I’ve learned, I like to create my own. Every head is different and requires it’s own perfectly manicured cut. Razoring the hair helps me enable natural movement and swing for everyday modern and low-maintanence hairstyles. I can create the cutest pixies, allow more space in the hair to redefine textured hair, and create more blended and softer layering with a razor. Everything I’ve learned from the masters at ARROJO, I’m teaching my stylists at the salon. They, too, have taken hands-on fundamental classes to perfect their skill. We are always learning and expanding our knowledge so that we can better serve you and your unique hair desires. Our belief is true to being a student for life.

Other ways we keep the hair moving beautifully is with hair integrity! Healthy, shiny hair moves, styles better, and is much more low-maintenance. We encourage ARROJO Product because we’ve seen the difference it has made in clients hair that use the product daily. It nourishes the hair with vitamin B5 and minerals. We’re also not risk takers with chemicals. Over processed hair does not move, shine, or style easily.

Check out some of the beautifully razored and everyday hairstyles that were created by our friends at ARROJO.

There’s soft and disheveled texture, straight and jagged lines, but most of all, sexy movement and swing in the hair! Each style is sustained with ARROJO Product which holds the style in place, but allows it to swing and move throughout the day.

Our recommendation: DEFRIZZ SERUM

I’ve pulled this post from StyleNoted entitled, An Old Wives Tale, Disambiguated, because it talks about razor cutting myths.

“There are many misguided ideas about hair, especially with regard to how to cut, color, and style it. From believing that trimming hair makes it grow faster to thinking a new hair color guarantees extra fullness, our collective consciousness is inundated with age old ideas that appear comforting and fun. But this misguided gospel muddy’s the waters of successful, easy styling. In the modern world, one of the biggest myths surrounds razor-cutting. Nowadays more and more hairdressers cut with a razor instead of scissors. It’s an excellent way to create modern, low-maintenance hairstyles. Yet with all the myths and the legends, you may think it a sworn enemy of chic, stylish tresses. Let’s separate the myth from the reality…

Step: “Razor-cutting is bad for hair health –– it damages my lovely cuticles.” No it doesn’t. A stylist who is untrained in the proper technique and who, as a consequence, fails to angle the blade correctly, will damage the health of your hair.

Step: “I much prefer a guarded blade. It’s so much safer.” A guarded blade is less precise and gives the stylist less feeling for, and less engagement with, the shape and the style. Stylists confident with a straight edge blade are the best razor-cutters.

Step: “Ouch, it tugs at my hair!” If you have experienced a tugging at the hair feeling with a razor-cut it means the stylists blade was not sharp enough. When getting a razor-cut, ask your stylist to use a fresh blade

Step: “The razor doesn’t work for my curly hair.” This is one of the saddest myths because, in the right hands, the razor is better at cutting texture than scissors. So long as the stylist directs the razor correctly with the curl pattern, it encourages a more consistent curl.

Step: “I like one-length looks and the razor only makes shattered shapes.” No, a razor can cut a very precise clean line with a slightly jagged edge, which is actually more forgiving and aids the grow out and the styling versatility.

Step: “It’s good for thick hair, but it destroys fine hair like mine.” Again, this comes down to the technique of the hairdresser but, ultimately, it’s a total myth. The razor is great for fine hair because that little jagged line aids texture and body, while soft lines –– which occur naturally in razor-cutting –– is exactly what baby fine hair needs.”
